SUMMARY:Crime Scene and Evidence Photography
DESCRIPTION:Image courtesy of Kim Shapiro  |  This is a Level 1 event \n Registration: OPENS October 13 @ 6am / CLOSES November 1 @ Midnight\nCrime scene photography is a highly technical profession; a crime scene photographer has to be skilled in the art of producing the most exact\, detailed photographs that record the crime scene and the physical evidence within the crime scene as objectively and accurately as possible. The context\, close-up\, and overall images must meet rigorous standards to become permanent\, visual records that are suitable for a court of law. \nCome join our very own crime scene specialist and forensic photographer\, Kim Shapiro\, as she explains the correct lighting\, proper lenses\, and accurate angles to produce professional photographs that can be analyzed\, enlarged\, and submitted in court hearings\, proceedings\, or trials. She will also discuss the importance of methodologies to produce consistent\, high-quality images to accompany crime scene investigation reports and the many challenges of crime scene photography. \nThere will be a mock crime scene photography exercise as well\, so bring your cameras\, tripods\, flash units and off-camera flash cords if you have them! \nWhat to Bring (Optional)\n\nCamera\nLenses (wide-angle\, normal\, macro)\nTripod\nFlash & Off-Camera Flash Cord\nCable Release\n\n  \n\n  \nMeet the instructor\nKim Shapiro is the Supervising Crime Scene Specialist and a lead instructor at San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. She played a major role in moving the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Crime Lab from film to digital photography\, spearheading validation studies for specific photographic techniques\, training the CSI unit in the new format\, and developing laboratory procedure manuals. \n\n  \n\n  \nRegistration\n\n  \n\n  \nWhat does a Level 1 event mean?\nEach of our events lists a recommended level of experience (1-3). By categorizing our events using this method\, we hope to better inform you of what you need to know and how to best prepare so that you can get the most out of your attendance. \nA level 1 event means that the instruction provided will be focused on beginners and intermediates\, so no previous knowledge or experience of the topic is expected. \n  \nPlease Note: Anyone is welcome to attend any class level\, however\, the pace and content may not be at your current skill level. If this is the case\, please expect to attend with the expectation to observe rather than engage. As with all of our educational events\, we will always make every effort to accommodate all attendees regardless of their experience level. \n  \n

SUMMARY:How-To Travel Packing Guide for Photographers
DESCRIPTION:Image courtesy of Brad Toms \nJoin us for this multi-part\, pre-recorded series as your host\, Troy Miller chats with travel photographers\, Peter Levshin and Brad Toms\, about packing for travel to optimize their shooting time and what gear they find essential. \nThey will discuss all of the gear they take from Drones and GoPros to tripods and Sony’s A1 flagship camera\, and share with us which essentials work or fail for travel adventures. \nThis video series will be released on the IEPPV YouTube channel and will be announced via our email newsletter.  \n  \n\n  \nTroy Miller\nTroy Miller as a creative has chosen wedding photography as his full-time profession for over 25 years. Having earned his Masters of Photography from PPA\, he’s received numerous awards throughout his career. Troy is also the creator of f64 Live\, an annual photography event providing educations and experience for photographers of all levels. \nTroy is also a regular feature on the This Week In Photo (TWiP) community and does a regular image critique with Frederick Van Johnson\, the owner of TWiP. When he’s not photographing brides or creating art\, he can be found in his shop creating art with other mediums such as welding\, fabricating\, ceramics\, or just lighting things on fire. \n  \nSample of Work \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \nPeter Levshin\nPeter Levshin was born in Sydney\, Australia and has lived in Los Angeles since 1988 with his wife\, Linda\, four children and six grandchildren. Peter came from a creative family — His father was a painter and his mother designed ceramics\, pottery\, as well as tapestries. \nPeter’s photographs are simple\, ethereal\, mystical and always have a dramatic atmosphere. He captures bold colors that make a statement\, yet the simple subjects create a sense of drama. Peter wants the viewer to feel a connection with his artwork. \n  \n  \nSample of Work \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \n  \nBrad Toms\nBrad Toms is a landscape and travel photographer based in Yucaipa California\, where he lives with his wife and two daughters. Brad started his photography passion in 2015. In 2019 he retired from a career in Law Enforcement. Brad has always loved to travel and do anything that gets him outdoors. \nBrad originally found photography was a great stress release from the pressures and stress of being in Law Enforcement. Now being retired he plans his adventures with photography in mind. His hope is to create images that have impact\, creativity and share the experience and beauty he saw while taking the photograph. \n  \n  \nSample of Work \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n
