SUMMARY:Crime Scene and Evidence Photography
DESCRIPTION:Image courtesy of Kim Shapiro  |  This is a Level 1 event \n Registration: OPENS October 13 @ 6am / CLOSES November 1 @ Midnight\nCrime scene photography is a highly technical profession; a crime scene photographer has to be skilled in the art of producing the most exact\, detailed photographs that record the crime scene and the physical evidence within the crime scene as objectively and accurately as possible. The context\, close-up\, and overall images must meet rigorous standards to become permanent\, visual records that are suitable for a court of law. \nCome join our very own crime scene specialist and forensic photographer\, Kim Shapiro\, as she explains the correct lighting\, proper lenses\, and accurate angles to produce professional photographs that can be analyzed\, enlarged\, and submitted in court hearings\, proceedings\, or trials. She will also discuss the importance of methodologies to produce consistent\, high-quality images to accompany crime scene investigation reports and the many challenges of crime scene photography. \nThere will be a mock crime scene photography exercise as well\, so bring your cameras\, tripods\, flash units and off-camera flash cords if you have them! \nWhat to Bring (Optional)\n\nCamera\nLenses (wide-angle\, normal\, macro)\nTripod\nFlash & Off-Camera Flash Cord\nCable Release\n\n  \n\n  \nMeet the instructor\nKim Shapiro is the Supervising Crime Scene Specialist and a lead instructor at San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. She played a major role in moving the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Crime Lab from film to digital photography\, spearheading validation studies for specific photographic techniques\, training the CSI unit in the new format\, and developing laboratory procedure manuals. \n\n  \n\n  \nRegistration\n\n  \n\n  \nWhat does a Level 1 event mean?\nEach of our events lists a recommended level of experience (1-3). By categorizing our events using this method\, we hope to better inform you of what you need to know and how to best prepare so that you can get the most out of your attendance. \nA level 1 event means that the instruction provided will be focused on beginners and intermediates\, so no previous knowledge or experience of the topic is expected. \n  \nPlease Note: Anyone is welcome to attend any class level\, however\, the pace and content may not be at your current skill level. If this is the case\, please expect to attend with the expectation to observe rather than engage. As with all of our educational events\, we will always make every effort to accommodate all attendees regardless of their experience level. \n  \n

SUMMARY:The “Down and Dirty” When Photographing Abroad
DESCRIPTION:Image courtesy of John Powers  |  This is a Level 1 event \n Registration: OPENS October 10 @ 6pm / CLOSES October 19 @ 6am\nTravel Photography\nTravel Photography can be intimidating: while navigating through unfamiliar countries abroad with peculiar customs and foreign languages\, you hope to keep you and your expensive gear safe and also capture incredible images without insulting anyone unintentionally. With a moderate-to-hefty investment of time and money\, you certainly don’t want to end up with cellphone snapshots like those your Uncle Miltie took on his last cruise to Catalina Island. \nIn this class\, you will explore the ins and outs of Travel Photography\, with a particular focus on overseas travel tips and insights rarely talked about in this field. John Powers will begin with what exactly is Travel Photography and how it embodies other disciplines of photography\, making the experience diverse and unique. \nOpen discussions will include the pros and cons of traveling alone or in tour groups\, US State Department guidelines\, to include the CDC\, Travel Advisory Updates\, and S.T.E.P program\, all crucial for real-world crisis and preparation. This will also include guidelines involving travel in light of terrorism and natural disasters. Understanding cultures and customs in light of Travel Photography and practical photographic techniques and tips especially for traveling abroad will certainly be covered. And while the tips and insights are applicable to Travel Photography as a whole\, special emphasis will be placed on travels through Asia. \nWhat to Bring\n\nYour questions\, no matter how big or how small\n5-10 pictures for “Show & Tell” from your travel adventure(s)\n\n  \n\n  \nSample of John’s Work\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n  \n\n  \nRegistration\n\n  \n\n  \nWhat does a Level 1 event mean?\nEach of our events lists a recommended level of experience (1-3).
